Bowls Newsletter - 12/11/23
Bowls SA Events at KMBC
The club has agreed to host 2 sectional events for Bowls SA.
State Fours Sectional
On Sunday November 26 the club is hosting a sectional for the State Fours.
Men's Country Carnival Singles
On Tuesday January 30 the club is hosting Men’s Country Carnival Singles sectionals.
Wednesday: All teams played away this week.
Thursday: Both teams played away.
Saturday: A mixed day again with some resounding victories and losses.
This was a major topic in last week’s newsletter and continues to be due to changes in legislation regarding food handling. The action required by the club is that all members who volunteer in any way involving food need to complete a course that demonstrates the knowledge and skills to handle potentially dangerous food. From December 8, 2023, enforcement of the new requirements will commence so I’m hoping that by then most people involved in food handling will have completed the course.
I have included a link to an approved online course that is available free of charge. A certificate is generated immediately on successful completion.
Secondly
The club needs to nominate Food Safety Supervisors. Ideally at least 2 would be preferable. Anyone interested please contact me.
There is a mandatory requirement that all food handlers are supervised by a fully trained and qualified Food Safety Supervisor.
Supervisors are to hold a Nationally accredited certificate from a Registered Training Organisation.
Finally
Please forward a copy of your certificate to KMBC secretary Heather Garnett to be filed in club records. Email to kensiclub.bowls@gmail.com
Here are some dates to keep in mind that are coming up at KMBC which will be a great way to stay in touch with club members and invite new ones to come along:
Please talk about our Ladies Barbie Bowls Day tournament this November with other clubs so they can put together a team and come to see what a great tournament KMBC holds.
State Fours Assistance
On Sunday November 26th we are hosting State Fours Sectional matches for Men and Women. I am seeking assistance for the following
Ladies Gala Day
On Monday November 27th we have Ladies Gala Day. A reminder that we have a meeting at 3pm on Tuesday November 14th to discuss setup and catering arrangements. To be followed by the Tournament Committee meeting at 4pm with director Brian Dew.
Men’s Singles Country Carnival
We have been asked by BowlsSA to conduct Men’s Singles Country Carnival on Tuesday January 30th 2024. In due course assistance will be required for this event in particular markers.
For all of those kind and conscientious members with Christmas Raffle Books outstanding we have 4 weeks left to have the monies and tickets back to me prior to our Christmas Dinner. Close off will be absolute after the pennant game on Saturday December 9th. This is the weekend before our Christmas Dinner date on the 15th.
Good Luck, Nev Y
The next Friday night meal at the clubrooms will be Friday November 17th and the menu consists of Teriyaki Roast Chicken and vegetables followed by apple crumble. The cost is $20/person. Please book by the end of day November 15th on the sheet in the clubrooms. Helpers are team 1.
The annual Christmas dinner will soon be upon us, being held on Friday December 15th this year. Bookings need to be made with Ken Mason along with table choice, menu selection and $20 deposit. More details will be placed in next week's newsletter but get in early to be sure you don't miss out as it's a great social activity for the club and its members.
Is anyone (or two) available to help with food service at Thursday night owls for the next 3-4 weeks while Joan Young is recovering from shoulder surgery. Please contact Anne O’Dea (0407797401) if you’re able to help. You’d be needed from 6pm - 8pm and it involves serving the sausage sizzle. If there are lots of volunteers, you’ll only be needed once!
Thanks - Anne O'Dea
Don't forget that happy hour takes place at the club each and every Friday night and it's a great way to socialise with other members of the KMBC family.
It would be appreciative for ALL events at the club that the inside duty team make sure that the screen is on as part of the set up duties. It is imperative we display our sponsors names at ALL events as this is the only medium we have for continuous exposure and advertising to support their businesses. Appreciate everybody's support on this matter.
Thanks heaps, Nev Y
Please remember that when you visit one of our club sponsors to let them know you are from the KMBC so they know their sponsorship is worthwhile. Sponsors play a vital role in the future of our club so please be sure to support them whenever you can. Anyone who has an idea about a potential sponsor please approach anyone on the Committee to share your ideas.
